School Board

What is the role of a school board of trustees?  That is a complex question.  The board of trustees in any district is charged with overseeing the welfare of the school system it operates.

The Texas Association of School Boards “believes in the importance of board service. More than that, [they] believe in the power of good governance: trustees and boards who not only know what to do, but know what’s right. Who take extra steps to be as effective as they possibly can, and who encourage their fellow trustees to do the same, by networking, mentoring, and embodying the principles of effective board service.”

The belief of TASB is that we are living in ”the golden age of public education”.  This means:

  • students should be achieving
  • schools and teachers should be recognized for quality instruction
  • and all students should have the opportunity to succeed, and the means to reach their dreams.

TASB goes on to say:

  • Students are performing academically at unprecedented levels.
  • Public schools are fiscally accountable.
  • Students are reaching higher, in the classroom and for their futures, and they’re succeeding.
  • Texas schools offer all students a path to achievement.
  • Schools and teachers are recognized for excellence, statewide and nationally.
